14th August 2010: Relief operation of Anjuman Moin-ul Islam (AMI) Leh

OVERVIEW
The internal connectivity increased and pressure on Government and other civil society agencies working on relief and rescue are also increased to reach to the affected people. Victims from some of the areas like Taru, Nemo, Bazgo, Tai Timosgam and Igoo are approaching to different agencies for relief. From yesterday news the total casualties was 179 and missing are still more then 500. At this stage of time we must have exact numbers of casualties and number of missing, total number of villages affected with details of damages: houses, agricultural land, standing crops, roads, vehicles, human and livestock casualties. Therefore needs are felt to have a comprehensive assessment report so that accordingly we can work. Some agencies are good in relief and some can think for rehabilitation works also Government can allocate the village/ areas to interesting working NGOs/ Social/ religious institutions and then these agencies can approach to different National and International organization for support. Presently working style is more of emotional and less of professional which will not beneficial to victims and will not give us good impact as well. Our thinking is to let us have an assessment reports, which must be from the Government as it involves accountability, Government can do it if they like with the active participation of NGOs, social/ religious institutions and then allocations of areas/ villages so that agencies can reach to real victims and can show some impact, it will also increase accountability with NGOs/ Social/Religious institutions. After a week of the disaster lots of National and International agencies are coming forward for support, if we don’t have proper working system and accountability then it may give bad impression, even at this stage of time we have to think for social audit system so that everything will be cleared and transparent. Update of relief activities of AMI on 13th  August 2010
The rescue team has stopped the further clearance of mud/ silt from the community infrastructures and individuals houses, as now individual’s families are coming for help, which was also carried out in some places of Choglamsar Saboo and Skampari.
