OVERVIEW
As per the report coming from the different villages the worst affected villages are: Choglamsar (upper and lower including main village and Zanak Mane), Saboo, Pyiyang (including Murobogs, Thangnak), Taroo, Nimoo, Ney, Tia- Timosgam, Saspostey, Skurbuchan, Wanla, Photoksar, Hinju, Skui, Markha, Chilling Sumdha , Shey, Igoo, Nang, Stakmo and Leh town Mane Tsilding, new bus stand and hospital areas. Most of the areas the relief and rescue teams reached, but some areas have not been reached and need to cover those areas with basic relief items. The rescue works are still going on in all the nearby areas and reports are coming of rescuing the houses and its materials. Chief Minister J&K Mr. Omar Abudlla Visited again to Leh and discussed with the Government and NGOs officials about the progress of the rescue works, he also announced Rs.5 corers fund for relief and rehabilitation works in Leh district. Lives in different areas are coming to normal with people are still cleaning the mud from the houses and road side, cleaning of mud from the roads are in progress and internal connectivity has been increased although highway from Leh to Srinagar and Manali still closed. Most of the shops in main market are still close and there was announcement for reopening of shops and make available essentials items to public. Tourists on trekking in different villages have been rescued and lifted to Leh in helicopters, reported of casualties of foreign tourists are on trek. Total numbers of casualties are more than 154 the exact number still not available as reports from the villages are not yet received. Electricity of the town is started from the diesel generating set from 7 – 11 pm, but the phone are still not working from the BSNL service, and quite difficult for access to internet lots of media personals are here to report on the disaster and the relief and rescue works.
Update of relief activities of AMI on 9th August 2010
Ultimately after so many volunteers hard work the death body of the child at Choglamsar has been recovered from the silt and handed over to the family, the whole villagers and family thanks to AMI volunteers. Zanak Maney clearance of mud from the 7 families and have sorted out their households materials. The river water coming from Saboo village which damaging the houses of the families living near to stream have been cleared and redirected the river water to save the further damages to houses and their properties. Tashi Uatsal area 550 meters muds have been cleared from the houses and some protection work has been done. The Goba of village and members of households thanks to AMI volunteers and they obtained kind of thanks letters. Medicines collected at the collection center of AMI, Leh have been handed over to Superintendent of SNM hospital with some cloth bundles as requested by Superintendent of hospital. Cloth and other food items have been distributed in various villages, in Choglamsar village lots have been handed over to the Goba of village for further distribution.
Management Committee for relief of AMI along with President AMI went to report the efforts of AMI Youth Wing to DDC, Leh with the update report, but due to arrival of CM he was extremely busy. Later on in the meeting DDC appreciate the works of AMI and other NGOs working for relief and rescue. He further explained the overall situation of Leh district in terms and disaster and requested to all concern to come forward for relief work. He further mentioned that no NGO or other person reach to Igoo village and particularly requested to President AMI if they can do some immediate relief to the people of Igoo village, President AMI ensure for sending rescue and relief team to Igoo village with some relief materials and Doctor in the next morning.
