OVERVIEW
The relief and rescue works are on high from the civil societies and Government, in Leh town there are information centre of Travelling Agencies Association which providing information to people about the road connectivity. The roads to Manali and Srinagar are still close and people are wondering to go to Srinagar and other places, the Manali road may open very soon as most of the road are damaged in the Gia Miroo belt towards Taklangla and a diversion road via Mahey bridge through Pholong Konka to get into Rpshu Kharnak area which join the highway to Manali may open within days. Most of the labours from Doda and Bihar were stopped and were promised by the Government to provide them works and accommodations at different areas. The reports from different areas of finding the death bodies coming and now death toll reach to 175 and still missing are more then 500. A candle march was organized by the LBA and thousands of people join the March from Petrol pump to Lal chowk besides people praying on the way special prayers were organized at Immam Bara, Gonpa Soma and Jama Masjid. The agencies working on relief are looking for assessment report for all the destructions in Leh district which is still not available. Minister for Tourism J&K State Mr. Rigzin Jora visited different areas including Leh town and advising people to come forward with their damages, Government will try support as much as possible. Volunteers from different areas, agencies and social institutions are working hard to clear the mud from the SNM hospital and army also supporting into it.
Update of relief activities of AMI on 11th August 2010
We were not able to do the review and planning meeting for today as all the members join the candle march. The rescue team assigned for further mud cleaning works at Choglamasar has done with more than 30 labours and some volunteers able to clean up more than 10 houses.
Relief team went for rapid assessment of the villages: Shey, Saboo, Choglamsar, Phiyang and Stagophilok consulted villagers and reported to MC of AMI for their immediate needs and after the discussions they have allotted volunteers with require materials and went to distribute in the village as listed below:
On the request of the Mohalla Stagophilok a team went to do the rapid assessment of the Mohalla so that information can be shared with Government and other agencies for relief and rehabilitation. The worst affected houses in the Mohalla filled up with mud damaged and losses of properties are: Haji M Usman Mujoo, Manzoor Ahmad Mujo, Parvezz Ahmad Mujoo, Mohammad Akbar Relli, Haji Akhone Gulam Mohammad, Villayat Ali Nordak, Mohammad Rassol Banaras, Tundop Samphel Lardong, Siraj ud deen and in Cinema Hall the films store filled up with water and mud damaged 40 films. All these families are looking for support for rehabilitation.
Management Committee of AMI, Leh circulated appeal for donations locally and outside of Ladakh as well and people are coming forward with the relief items like cloths, utensils, food items and cash to help most deserving people. Some of the volunteers are working hard in rescue and relief works since beginning and also providing their vehicles. Good to see such volunteers who are working hard to help people who are affected “God Bless them all”.
The collection of donations at the collection centre for 11th August besides lots of cloths, utensils and other materials an amount of Rs. 1.25 lacs received, Including of cheques given by the people deposited in the bank account.
MC at the collection centres also distributed materials on the request of the individuals victims after discussing with the relief and rescue teams as shown under:

4. Beside above families there 10 individuals’ Nepali labours presently sheltering at Shey Gonpa approached for relief and after discussion they were provided with cloths bundles.
