On Thursday night and Friday morning (5th / 6th Augusts 2010) after a heavy rain fall there were cloudbursts in Leh town and adjoining areas like Saboo, Choglamsar, Shey and Nemo. Worst destruction was in Leh town with maximum human casualties, as per the Government report it was 128 till 2.30 pm of 7th August. People are saying that it is the worst flood ever seen from last 50 years. The damages were huge in some of the areas of Leh town, worst was at Manechilding Mohlla. Apart from many human casualties houses, shops, vehicles were washed out and there were loss of millions of rupees, public properties and Government assets. As it happened in the night no one was able to do any immediate rescue works, the next morning however hundreds of local people came out of the houses and with their own makeshift equipments started their rescue operation in different areas of Leh town. Youth wing of Anjuman Muinul Islam (AMI) Leh, came out for immediate rescue and relief works in Leh town and reported to District Development Commissioner for their relief activities. DDC appreciated the effort of youth wing of AMI and requested to concentrate more in the village of Choglamsar as it was one of the most affected areas and there was a need of immediate rescue and relief works. The team of AMI with three trucks loaded with relief items like drinking water, first aid biscuits, cold drinks etc. went immediately to village Choglamsar and distributed these items amongst the people at the relief campsite in the village. On the basis of feedback given by the immediate relief team an assessment team was deputed to further assess the situation and report back. The team went to village and observed the damages, discussed with the village leaders and compiled a brief preliminary assessment report as under:

Choglamsar village is 7 Kms from Leh main town and on the south of national high way to Manali. The destructions were due to the flood in main stream coming from Saboo village, along with human casualties, houses and agricultural lands were washed out. The source of irrigation water of the village is the Indus river and most of the irrigation channel is covered by slush.

7. Drinking water facilities (water tanks)
8. Empty begs to use for protection
AMI youth wing engaged 30 labours and the plan for 8th August is to rescue the missing body of the child and clearing the silt from the houses.
The assessment team visited the village and the most affected areas with the village leaders and took some photos as well. Also they discussed with the following representatives of the village for rescue, relief and rehabilitation works for the village:
